Laughing Gas For Cleanings

If you’re anxious about dental treatments, including cleanings, laughing gas can help! If you’ve been putting off your trip to the dentist because of fear or anxiety, we invite you to visit us. We’re committed to gentle dental care and making you as comfortable as possible.
Also known as nitrous oxide, laughing gas is a mild sedative that’s applied through a nosepiece. This type of sedation gets its name from the fact that it causes a light, giddy feeling, which may make you want to giggle. At a minimum, laughing gas will make you feel more relaxed.
Once the dental cleaning is finished, we apply 100% oxygen through the nosepiece, which then brings you back to full alertness. With laughing gas, you’re able to drive yourself home from your dental appointment, whereas with oral sedation or IV sedation, you’ll need to get a ride home.
Laughing gas for a cleaning can be the best answer if you have sensitive teeth or gums, or just aren’t comfortable getting your teeth cleaned. For deeper cleanings (which are recommended for people with gum disease), laughing gas can make all the difference.
Not all dental offices in the Denver metro area offer laughing gas, but as experienced sedation dentists, we’ve found that it can be extremely helpful. For procedures other than cleanings, we’ll often combine laughing gas with Novocain.
