Sedation For Periodontal Care

At our dental office, we’re fully committed to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease.

We offer a full range of periodontal care, including the following:
gum disease screenings
•customized periodontal maintenance programs
•deep periodontal (gum) cleanings
•root planings
•gum surgery

Good oral hygiene and regular dental cleanings can help prevent gum disease (periodontal disease)! But some people are more susceptible to periodontitis because of genetic disposition, prescription medications, or other factors.

You may know that keeping your gums healthy can help prevent tooth loss, but what is less known is that you can also help prevent serious medical conditions. Numerous medical and dental studies have demonstrated a link between periodontal disease and heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other medical conditions.

For deep cleanings, root planings, and gum surgery, sedation can help to make the treatments more comfortable.

We offer 3 types of sedation for periodontal care:
laughing gas (nitrous oxide)
conscious sedation (oral sedation)
IV sedation (general anesthesia)

What causes gum disease? Gum disease starts with plaque, which is a film of bacteria. Brushing, flossing and dental cleanings typically eliminate plaque. But, if, for some reason, plaque lingers, it can get below your gumline and lead to gum disease.

You can take care of your health by taking good care of your gums.
