IV Sedation
IV sedation, also referred to as general anesthesia, is the deepest form of sedation. You receive the sedation through an IV that is attached to your arm. While you are receiving IV sedation, you’re fully unconscious and unaware of anything that is going on. After receiving IV sedation, you’ll need to have someone drive you home from your appointment.

Conscious Sedation / Oral Sedation
Conscious sedation, which is also called oral sedation, is a moderate form of sedation. You receive this type of sedation by taking a pill ahead of your dental treatment. The sedation makes you less aware of what’s going on around you, and time seems to pass quickly. After receiving conscious sedation, you will need to have someone drive you home from your appointment.

Laughing Gas
Laughing gas, which is nitrous oxide, is a mild form of sedation. You will receive this type of sedation through a nosepiece that delivers the gas. Laughing gas can be used by itself (for a cleaning, as an example), or in conjunction with Novocain. After receiving laughing gas, you’ll be able to drive yourself home from your appointment.
